OUT TODAY!!! The Living Tarot, my newest book!

Folks, I’m so excited The Living Tarot book has been years in the making. It’s my answer to a question that has haunted me for years: How do you teach someone tarot? How does an ordinary person turn into an arbiter of fortune, a dweller at the crossroads?  How do you become the living paradox that is a tarot reader?

The answer: You teach yourself.

COMFORT YOUR DEMONS: The 9 of Swords Blanket Project

If you, like me, are a hardcore tarotista, you're familiar with the famous blanket on the Rider Waite Smith 9 of Swords. The protagonist of the card is a literal picture of anxiety—as much so as Edvard Munch's 'The Scream'—but the blanket tells a different story.  I've always believed that the blanket represents the implicit security of being grounded, alive, and embodied. The demons in the 9 of Swords are intellectual specters! You can wake up to discover that in real life, you are OK! I think the blanket is a reminder of that.  Its roses are a symbol of life's passion and vibrancy; its glyphs are the embrace of the eternal cosmos.

'CONVERSING WITH FATE' - October lecture series with the Jung Society of Washington

Friends, I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be leading a four-week program looking at tarot and divination in a Jungian context.

The program will consist of 4 two-hour Zoom sessions on Tuesdays through October. Over the course of study, I’ll explore what it means to engage in archetypal sortilege with increasing depth and practical application. We’ll look at what the oracular moment says about reality, ways to hunt and scavenge for meaning, how to make inquiries of Fate, and how to undertake magical acts. Each session will end with hands-on, guided tarot praxis.

If you find yourself irresistibly drawn, like I am, to questions of purpose, meaning, and fate? This one’s for you! It’s a deep, rich intersection of material, and I look forward to exploring it with as many of you as possible.

Register here for the 4-week series: It’s $125, with discounts for Jung Society of Washington members,

As you probably know if you’ve been here before, I think EVERYONE should read tarot!

A Year in Spells: 2020-2021

Happy Spring, everyone! With the zodiacal new year upon us, it’s time for an annual ritual of mine - the Burning of the Spells. As you may know, with every daily two-card draw, I write a spell: it’s part prayer, part argument, part conversation, part prediction. In other words, it’s my way of being in conversation with fate. At the end of each zodiacal year, I burn the spells in one of the last hearth fires of the season. (Except for the 2019-2020 year in spells, which were part of the decan walk that became 36 Secrets: A Decanic Journey through the Minor Arcana. Those I saved as a keepsake.)
